No. This is the most common dermaplaning misconception. Vellus hair (peach fuzz) is biologically different from terminal hair — it has no follicular bulb that can be stimulated to produce thicker growth. The hair that regrows after dermaplaning is identical to what was there before — same texture, same color, same density. Cutting vellus hair cannot change its follicle structure. This is confirmed biology, not a provider claim.

No — not for peach fuzz. Stubble is produced by terminal hair (thick, pigmented, coarser facial hair) with a blunt cut end. Vellus peach fuzz does not produce stubble when cut because it lacks the terminal hair structure. Patients with darker, coarser facial hair may want to discuss specific treatment zones with their esthetician at consultation — but for the typical peach fuzz that dermaplaning addresses, there is no stubble.

For most patients, no — and for many, dermaplaning actually helps reduce comedonal acne by removing the dead cell layer that can trap sebum in pores. However, patients with active inflammatory acne (papules, pustules, cysts) should not receive dermaplaning over active lesions as the blade could spread bacteria and cause irritation. More frequent treatment (less than 3 weeks) is not recommended as the skin needs time to rebuild its protective layer.

The results of dermaplaning — smooth skin and peach fuzz removal — typically last 3–4 weeks. After this period, the skin’s natural cell turnover cycle rebuilds the stratum corneum layer and the vellus hair begins to regrow at its normal rate. Most patients return for a fresh treatment every 4 weeks to maintain consistently smooth, luminous skin.

Yes — dermaplaning is one of the safest exfoliation options for sensitive skin. Unlike chemical exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs, retinoids) that introduce active ingredients that can irritate reactive skin, dermaplaning is a purely physical treatment with no chemicals applied to the skin.
